If you read the entertainment blogs, magazines or newspaper sections, you see a lot of stories of celebrity divorces or flitting between relationships. The latest disintegrating couples are Brendan Fraser and his wife, and Robin Wright Penn and Sean Penn - with rumors that Sean cheated on the woman he always said he adored. Tony Parker, on the other hand, is suing a blog for claiming he cheated. You’re probably wondering why this goes on so much.
Over the years, I’ve met hundreds of people with stars in their eyes. A few dozen of them actually went on to be celebrities or mini-celebrities, accomplishing their goal to achieve fame. Some of them are novelists/ writers, photographers/ videographers, fashion designers, TV hosts, even well-known singers/ musicians now. The two overwhelmingly common characteristics they all have is (1) being very artistic and (2) being very passionate.
Passionate people just tend to become easily emotionally attached to anyone who appears to empathize with them. And artistic passion is often manifested sexually. It’s not always triggered by meeting someone who is more attractive than your current spouse or partner, but rather by someone who appears to empathize more.
Of course, this doesn’t seem all that different than for the average couple, but keep in mind that celebrities tend to be far more passionate than the average person - else they wouldn’t have the persistence be where they are.
This is of course only my hypothesis, based on my observations, but I think I’ve met enough people who are now celebrities to consider this a legitimate reason. Or maybe I’m full of it and they’re just jerks who think they can get away it?
