Some nominated actors and actresses are refusing to participate in the Golden Globes if the Writer’s strike is still going on. Since it’s day 39, and nothing has been resolved, I’m not holding my breath. And I have to say: I’m proud of those actors and actresses who refuse to cross the picket line to attend the awards ceremony should the strike still be going on. Who are they?
Katherine Heigl, nominated for Grey’s Anatomy, said, “I’m not crossing the picket line, not unless I’m contractually obliged to do, which, for the Golden Globes, I’m not.”
James McAvoy from Atonement, said, “I don’t think I’d want to do that. It’s an environment I wouldn’t want to stick my nose into.”
Glen Close from Damages, said, “I would never cross a picket line.”
Others are wishy washy, like Entourage’s Jeremy Piven, “I don’t know whether or not I’ll be attending because to be honest with you, I don’t know a lot about the rules and limitations of what is happening. I need to look into it. Writers are kind of these unsung Heroes.”
Of course, there are several actors and actresses who are planning on showing up, including 30 Rock’s Tina Fey and Ellen DeGeneres probably wouldn’t hesitate either (she didn’t before). New actresses Nikki Blonsky (Hairspray) and Ellen Page (Juno) were also nominated and are presumably, both attending.
Even so, kudos to those who are supporting there writers. That takes commitment.
