The Weekend Movies

Beowulf and Hrothgar
A quick glance at the box office.

This weekend, the newly-released Beowulf, staring Robin Wright Penn (Queen Wealthow), Anthony Hopkins (Hrothgar), Ray Winstone (Beowulf), Crispin Glover (Grendel) and Angelina Jolie (Grendel’s mother), did the best in theaters, coming in first with $28 million. I want to see this, but haven’t been able to yet… traumatic weekend. Even so, I mostly liked Beowulf when I read it in high school, so hopefully I will continue to like it after I see the poem on film. With the amazing cast, I’m expecting amazing things. For those who have seen it, was it as good as could be expected?

Bee Movie and American Gangster came in second and third, bringing in $14.3 million and $13.2 million, respectively.
