Star Trek XI Stuck in the Transporter: Release Pushed to 2009

Variety reports that Star Trek XI, helmed by JJ Abrams of Lost and Cloverfield fame, is being pushed from Dec 25 of this year to May 8, 2009. The reasoning is that it’ll do better in the box office as a summer release. This is of course hugely disappointing to those of us that feel we’ve been cheated out of several Star Trek movies (two of them, I believe) and have been waiting for any new visual content.

Star Trek is not the only movie that Paramount is pushing back. See the Variety article for more details.
