Scarlett Johansson Ruins Her Brand?

Actress Scarlett Johansson is considered by some to be one of the most beautiful young actresses around right now. She’s also a talented actress and singer, with movies (The Other Boleyn Girl) and an album (of Tom Waits covers) in the works.

So building her personal brand is crucial to her continued success. Why then would such a lovely, talented actress get a tattoo? Scratch that; Angelina Jolie has tattoos, and they suit her dark, mysterious look. I have nothing against tattoos (I have one, with others to come). But Scarlett is not dark and mysterious like Angelina, and her tattoo is so damn bad. (Jolie’s work is mostly black ink.)

It’s not the concept that’s the problem, it’s the fact that it looks like a really cheesy peel-off sticker of a sun rising over the ocean. And it’s prominently placed in one of the worst spots for an actress: on her forearm. Every director she works with henceforth will have to constantly figure out how to obscure this monstrosity while shooting.
