Natalie Portman participated in an auction held on Ebay to raise money for the Afghanistan Relief Organization. The auction was set to coincide with a newly released film, “The Kite Runner” which opened on December 14, 2007.
Natalie, Jessica Biel, Madonna, Will Ferrell, Ryan Gosling, and Angelina Jolie, Cher, Daniel Craig, Reese Witherspoon, Kate Winslet, Jake Gyllenhaal, (The Kite Runner’s director) Marc Forster, Khalid Abdalla and several other celebrities (30 altogether) signed the tails of 25 different Afghan kites. With the money raised from selling these on Ebay, the Afghanistan Relief Organization can build schools and libraries and pay teachers in the country.
People bidding on the kites could also win a new James Bond film, a dinner with Khalad Hosseini, who wrote the book the movie (The Kite Runner) is based on. People could also bit do have Hosseini use their names in his next book.
Though the auction was only supposed to run through December 15, some of the bidding is still going on. Items still available can be found here, and include the kites signed by Eva Mendes, Jake Gyllenhaal, Richard Gere, Milo Ventimiglia and several of the promo kites.
