A Legend in the Box Office

Will Smith as Dr. Robert Neville in I Am Legend
I Am Legend starring Will Smith as Dr. Robert Neville, showed what can happen with films people want to see: Records are broken and Legends are set. I Am Legend grossed $76.5 million, which is more than has been made by any film (ever) opening in December.

Alvin and The Chipmunks came in second with $45 million. Golden Compass came in third at a disappointing $9 million.

Special mention to Juno which didn’t break top ten, but was right behind it - and it was only shown in 40 theaters.
